Image of Death in Music

The course provides an outline in music history with a particular emphasis on death, its philosophy and its reception in different historic periods and in different cultures. The wide-ranging examples and music representations of death will be discussed along with music compositions, the styles and trends to which these belong. The course therefore is constructed as a metaphysics of death in music (called music thanatology), providing the necessary breakdown of music history, different genres, aesthetics, and key musical compositions. The mid-term attestation and the final exams will include evaluating students' essays and questionnaires, which will in turn follow professor's recommendations on writing these essays in an academic manner, which will also be taught and explained in details.
