What is Liberal Education?
Liberal education aims to cultivate in its students the desire and ability to learn, think critically, and skillfully express one’s thoughts. As a higher education system, liberal education is distinguished by independent courses of study. Students are presented with as much freedom of choice as possible, able to combine a broad disciplinary scope with a depth of subjects available for study. Liberal methodology bases itself on the premise that education is a creative process with the primary goal of developing each student’s unique individual character. Small class sizes, multidisciplinary education, conference format classes, policy that follows an academic plan, and independent academic paths for each student – these are the characteristics of liberal education.
