The interdisciplinary course offers a range of theoretical and methodological approaches to considering the authors, audiences, and meanings of popular literature in a variety of historical and cultural contexts. We will discuss such matters as: how popular literature shapes, reflecting our personal and social experiences, as well as reflects diversity in a multicultural society; the ways in which the materials of popular literature are shaped by aesthetics, social history, and cultural forces, and how popular literature influences these forces as well.
