Image of Death in Music
The course provides an outline in music history with particular emphasis on death, its philosophy, and its reception in different historical periods and in different cultures. The wide-ranging examples and musical representations of death will be discussed along with music compositions and the styles and trends to which these belong. The course, therefore, is constructed as a metaphysics of death in music (called music tanatology), providing the necessary breakdown of music history, different genres, aesthetics, and key music compositions. The mid-term attestation and the final exam consist of evaluating students' essays and questionnaires, which will in turn be followed with professor's recommendations on writing these essays in an academic manner. The academic essay will also be taught and explained in detail.
