Interdisciplinary Approach to Language Learning

The aim of the course is to give students an introduction to different experimental studies of language and speech in linguistics, psychology, neurobiology, medicine, genetics and other sciences. By the end of the course, students will know and understand key ideas and goals of psycho- and neurolingustic research. We will look at the following topics: features of speech generation and speech perception in healthy people and people with different phsysiological and mental disabilities; mental lexicon and mental grammar; theoretical approach to the problem of origin of humans and speech; brain correlates of speech activity; speech development in first and second language acquisition.
