6 credits
2nd year of study
Spring semester
The main goal of the course is to introduce students to various linguistic disciplines and scientific schools, to demonstrate the range of data studied by them, major problems they aim to solve, and their main goals. The course will discuss different levels of the language system (phonetics and phonology, grammar, semantics, pragmatics and discourse studies) as well as different approaches to the study of language (experimental, clinical, computational, corpus linguistics, formal and functional approaches, sociolinguistics, historical and comparative linguistics, and linguistic typology). Students will get acquainted with the most recent studies and will be briefly introduced to the history of linguistics.
