Russian Language: The Enhancement of Fundamental Grammatical and Phonetic Knowledge
The course is focused on developing Russian grammatical and phonetic knowledge and is designed for foreign students who speak Russian at an intermediate level. Lessons are structured so that homework is reviewed and stylistic nuances in the usage of constructions assigned are identified. Next, on the basis of an analyzed text, new grammar constructions with the given semantics, are highlighted. A system is created for the usage of constructions and practical exercises are provided to ensure comprehension. Additionally, students may be asked to write small texts that incorporate material covered. In parallel with grammatical skills, students improve their pronunciation and listening skills at the level of sound, syllable, phonetic word, and the whole sentence. Students perform transcription tasks, listen to authentic audio recordings, learn tongue twisters, compose mini-dialogues, and write phonetic dictations. Students become accustomed to hearing and correcting their own pronunciation to achieve the automation of continuous and correct articulation, and control themselves with the help of a dictaphone. It is expected that by the end of the course, students will be able to utilize new grammatical constructions, understand the stylistic features of constructions, be able to ask questions correctly, coherently respond to their interlocutor's remarks, and formulate their speech at the phonetic level without significant mistakes.
