Demographic History, Problems and Policy in the USSR / Russia
This course is designed to provide an overview of the demographic history and current socio-political situation in the USSR/Russia as it relates to public welfare. The course will outline the specifics of these processes in the USSR / Russia and compare the processes with other developed countries. Cultural and political commonalities within these countries while discussing and analyzing the rationales and actual practice of implementing demographic policies will be addressed. The course will include discourse on various approaches to evaluating current Russian demographics. Students will become familiar with the need to implement demographic policy in Russia and define policies' priorities and preferred measures for impacting the general public. The course will examine various approaches to evaluating the efficiency of the current demographic policies and to outlining the future of their perspective modification and implementation.
