Consortium of the European Liberal Arts Universities

The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences is an example of successful international partnership in education. Since its founding, the work of the first liberal arts program in Russia has drawn the attention of many Russian and foreign educational and research institutions, cultural centers and, charity foundations that support our project.

European universities today are once again recognizing the traditions of liberal arts. Recent economic and social transformations force the system of higher education to adjust to the needs of a new global world. The model of liberal arts education corresponds to the changing demands of contemporary society and knowledge-based economy.

On June 30th, 2012 the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between St. Petersburg State University and three European universities that implement liberal arts programs.

  • Jacobs University Bremen (Germany)
  • University College Utrecht (Utrecht University, The Netherlands)
  • Gotland University (Sweden)

The cooperation of the universities under the Memorandum is known by the working title "Consortium of the European liberal arts universities."

The framework of the Consortium allows for the exchange of knowledge and practices of liberal education and for consolidation of resources for organizing various joint educational and research activities—courses, academic exchange programs, international conferences, research projects and publications.
