In my first year it seemed to me that I already knew a lot, if not everything: I had work experience, some knowledge, the ability to watch opera performances attentively and contemplatively. The point is, perhaps, not that I later many new things. The most important thing I learned was to ask the right questions, not to take anything for granted, not to rely on somebody else's opinion, to always search for clues—this is what they teach in the Musical Criticism Program. In my opinion, this is necessary not only for music critics.
